So You Want a Baby…Eventually
This conversation is for the women who are just waiting. Today we are going to go through some ways to secure that womb or at least put a little bug in your ear so you can devote a little more time to that desire in your life.
You need to go to you GYN immediately and have a little talk. Us busy women like to schedule things, so schedule this. You need to sit down with your GYN and have an open and honest conversation with your doctor to know what your options are and really figure out where your body stands as far as fertility. This will also give us the opportunity to do some preconception testing to see ovarian reserve and to check your over all health. If you have diseases that need to be better controlled, then now is the time to do it. Again, pregnancy is so hard on the body, you want to make sure you 1. Can handle a pregnancy and 2. You are going in with the optimal body. We not only want you to get pregnant, but I want you to survive the pregnancy and delivery so you can spend forever with your little babe. Talking with you GYN is the first and most important part of securing your womb.
Mindset. Ladies, you really have to decide what you want. Yes YOU. And let me tell you why. Sometimes people make this decision based on others wants and desires. They think well if I get pregnant my job will get upset, or my family would judge me, or I’m not done traveling the world so I can’t do it right now. You really have to sit down with yourself and decide what is more important to you. Your job and pleasing people or the family you want. And this may sound hard but it’s something that needs to be done. Remember, time isn’t on your side. You really must weigh the cost of waiting vs starting now.
Start researching your options for Momma hood NOW. Like we know the regular old way to have a baby but you really need to start looking at other options just so you know the processes and cost. This is a conversation about securing the womb so you need to know your options in doing so. If you are in the waiting period, to which again, I don’t recommend especially after 35, you to know what all the options are out there. Now this is for persons in a relationship and single. Ladies, sometimes having a male partner isn’t enough when you are thinking about waiting. So here is a list of terminology for processes to get pregnant with or without a male partner.
Insemination- Ole school is when you get sperm, whether it’s your partner’s or donor and introduce it into the vaginal vault around the time for ovulation
IUI- This is one step up from insemination. It’s when a tiny tube is used to put the sperm into your uterus. This is done in a physician’s office
IVF- This is when we do the sperm meets the egg on the outside of the uterus, wait till it divides to a certain point and then put the “good embryos” into the uterus
Egg freezing – You can have your eggs retrieved and frozen and then stored for later use by you or a surrogate
Embryo freezing – You go through IVF but don’t put use the embryo, you freeze it for later use. I’ve had women do this with the counseling that frozen embryos have a higher chance of producing a viable pregnancy. Now just for full transparency. I’ve had patients do this as a single woman and then meet a man to which they want to start a family with and their partner doesn’t want to use the embryos. Then it becomes a hard conversation of what to do with the embryos. Just keep that in mind
Surrogacy – This is using another Momma’s womb to grow your little cherub. This child could be biologically yours or donor eggs/embryos can be used.
Adoption – When you raise a child that’s not biologically yours. Many ways to do this. An option not to take lightly. You don’t just get to wake up one day and think you’re going to pick out your child. Not that easy for you, the family that is allowing their child to be adopted or the adopted child.
Start thinking of ways to include your baby into your life instead of excluding.
Healthy lifestyle. Now with this being the Mature Momma Life podcast, I know most of us are seasoned. So that means we may be dealing with different issues that effect older women and to add on to that, we have this slow metabolism. I want my knees and metabolism from my 20s. Why can’t I have that LOL. And we has a lot more on our plate so we may have put our health on the back burner. One thing that absolutely helps with fertility and increases chances for a lower risk pregnancy is health. To secure this healthy womb, we need to eat better, exercise more, make sure our mental health is in check, and relax more.
